Funnest looking project!

I LOVE my kids at the ages they are now, I've loved every stage (really!) of their lives so far. But sometimes I get a glimpse of what our lives will be in a few years, and I get excited.

In Fort Worth, we have very dear friends who let us stay with them when we travel to Dallas for Sophia's doctor's appointments. They have a five year old and a seven year old (awesome kids!) and it's fun to watch how their lives are so different from ours. Their house is so nice looking, there are actually beautiful breakable objects in sight. The kids just go to the bathroom and wash their hands and get ready for bed - by themselves. No one is cutting up any one's food. They go on trips - not the zoo, but to Nova Scotia. And then there's the school programs and homework and summer camps and piano lessons. I love hearing about all of it.

Then I found this project while stumbling through the internet (too tired to do anything productive around the house, too awake to sleep). I can't wait to try this in a few years when the girls are a little older: a wee garden! How awesome is that?! The girls have a little vegetable garden in our backyard now - they are old enough to help plant and weed (they are a little over-enthusiastic with the weeding, so they require close supervision) and watering. But they don't have the fine motor skills or patience for a wee garden. What a fun thing to look forward to!

For now, I will savor the fact that I always know exactly where my children are and who they're with and what they're doing. I will enjoy that we can do anything anytime, without worrying about school. I will appreciate that I have complete control over what my children eat and drink and watch on TV. I will delight in all the newness - new words and skills learned every day. I will cherish these wee chubby bottoms that plop down in lap, just for a snuggle.
