National Night Out

Our neighborhood celebrated National Night Out tonight, which is a crime prevention event held every year. Usually it's in August, which is miserable, but this year it was in October and the weather was perfect! More than anything, it's just such an awesome opportunity to meet our neighbors, and it made me not want to ever move (something we've been going back and forth on so much lately, because according to everyone else's standards, our house is probably way too small for four kids - though I think we're doing just fine!) Anyway, it was so fun and the kids had a blast! I loved that there were SO many children there.

There were bounce houses and free hot dogs and live music and face painting

Henry played football with Davis

The girls enjoyed their hot dogs and chips while listening to the band

Henry watched the band upside down

And then he saw the fire truck and took off!

It was so neat that they had a female fighter there, because she talked to the girls about how girls can be fire fighter too. For my two girls who are scared of fire, this was great. Amelia especially got into it, asking what everything on the truck did and how it worked

Of course Henry was in boy heaven!

The police department was there fingerprinting kids to create ID cards for them - the girls just thought the whole finger printing process was neat. I love having their cards with their prints and all their information on them, so that if anything ever happened to them or they went missing, we could give them to the police.

We stayed until 8 p.m. - half an hour after the girls' bedtime! On a school night! I know, it's crazy (really, it kind of is, because I'm super strict about bedtime) But Davis and Henry walked home a little early and got the car to drive us home, and the tired kids passed out as soon as we got home. AND it was worth waiting till the very end - we won a raffle for a free oil change with our favorite neighborhood mechanic. :)

It was totally worth being naughty and getting out of the house for! My doctor said he would take me off bed rest on Thursday, and I've gotten up a few times in the past few days and have not noticed any more contractions, so I really think I'm in the clear at this point.
