End of the Year

I love asking Sophia what grade she's in this week - she gets this excited look on her face and says "SECOND!" And I said "no way!" And she laughs and starts jumping up and down and says "REALLY!"

Last week was the end of first grade for my big girl.  It was also a crazy week of building up anticipation and event after event after event.  Sophia was in tears almost every night at bedtime just from exhaustion.  But it was fun and now it's over and we are enjoying the lazy days of summer vacation!

Tuesday last week they had class awards.  Each student got academic awards (Sophia for math), but then their teacher made up really sweet individual awards too.  Sophia got the "Turtle Award, for coming out of her shell and sharing her personality with the class."  At the beginning of the year, Sophia was completely overwhelmed with changing schools and how hard they were pushing kids right off the bat.  I remember in October at a teacher conference, her teacher was fretting and saying that she had never seen Sophia smile.  I told her "just wait - by the end of the year you'll be calling me because Sophia won't stop chatting."  And sure enough, that's exactly what happened.

We have LOVED Ms. Blaisdell!  She was exactly the teacher Sophia needed this year - happy, up-beat, firm, organized, and just overall a great fit for Sophia.

I meant to take a picture, but was myself overwhelmed with everything going on last week... our teacher gifts this year were gift cards to P.F. Chang's inside a little Chinese take-out box with a note that says "we were so FORTUNE-ate to have you for a teacher this year!"  Ha ha. I love Pinterest.

THEN each of the kids drew a name from the class and made up an award for that person.  They were all like "best friend, best shoes (ha ha), best smile" etc.  Sophia got her award from sweet Matthew (who said in Kindergarten that he would marry her). It said "You are the best girl in the class. You are amazing, you are wonderful, you are fabulous, you are like a queen, you are a princess."  Sophia turned a little red when she got it :)

So sweet!

We made our summer goals and a bucket list of things we want to do.  We have Sophia's birthday and some vacations coming up.  It's going to be a GREAT summer!!
